Exceeded My Expectations

5.0 out
Rooted in Love: Our Calling as Catholic Women is not quite the book I expected it to be. This particular book exceeded my expectations. Not only was it inspiring and uplifting, but it was candid, funny, enlivening, encouraging, and enlightening.

In Rooted in Love, Donna-Marie engages her readers in her intimate, conversational way, which makes you feel as if you are chatting with a close friend over coffee or tea, sitting in front of the fireplace in your living room. There is a warmth and naturalness that comes across in her writing, which draws the reader into her story. Her unique brand of feminine spirituality, nurtured by Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta and Venerable John Hardon, gently guides the reader spiritually through chapters on discovering: who they are in Christ, how Christ works in their lives, how they can find Christ in others, and the joy of Christ. Following each chapter are questions for reflection to help the woman explore the multiple dimensions of her personhood - her mind, heart, soul, and body.

Rooted in Love beautifully unravels the truths of the Catholic faith as they relate to the whole woman and shows her how to use them for her own benefit and for the benefit of those she encounters in her life - family, friends, co-workers, acquaintances, and even total strangers. Rooted in Love is lovingly sprinkled with: saint quotes from some of my favorite saints, Scripture quotes, and excerpts from the Catechism of the Catholic Church and papal documents. Donna explains everything clearly and thoroughly, applying it all in practical, down-to-earth ways you can use in your everyday life.

Although I enjoyed the entire book, my favorite part was Chapter 7 - "In My Struggles." I think we all have a tendency to think that others - especially those who are successful in their careers, like Donna-Marie - are probably much better off than we are and have not had to deal with the really difficult, painful situations we have had to face in our lives. This chapter dispels those myths. Donna shares some rather shocking, traumatic episodes in her life, which show that she writes with authority about suffering and struggles. She uses her own examples and advice to help us deal with our own trials and tribulations and to fill our hearts with hope.

Rooted in Love: Our Calling as Catholic Women was written primarily for women - married, single, divorced, widowed--but I believe that men could profit from reading this book, too. I think it would help them to understand a woman and her spirituality better. I believe that it is beneficial reading material for all adult women and would be a wonderful supplement for: adult education, Christian/Catholic women's groups, and book discussion groups. This is an excellent gift for all occasions. I highly recommend Rooted in Love: Our Calling as Catholic Women

You won't be disappointed!

Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle has written a book from her heart to touch your own. From personal experience (and one wonders how any woman could have during her life coped with as much as she has), she shares with her readers that there is nothing that can happen that both you and Our Lord can't handle together. Woven together with the honest sharing of her life and struggles is the spiritual expertise she has amassed from the many years of her friendship with Mother Teresa and John Hardon, S. J.

No matter whether you are well along the way in your "faith journey", or just beginning, there is something for every woman in this book. It is a book that you will read over and over again always picking something up that you missed the last time.
I highly recommend this book. You won't be disappointed!

Review: Rooted in Love

There are not many books written for the Catholic woman right now. Although more and more books are being published, the Catholic woman still must search far and wide for something solid and faithful to the Magisterium. Look no further, Catholic women!

Catholic author and television host, Donna-Marie Cooper O'Boyle has written a useful and informative book for Catholic women, Rooted in Love. This book cites the Catechism and Church Documents throughout, leaving the reader with knowledge of the Catholic Church and practical wisdom to go along with it. Along with these citations, there are many quotes from the lives of the Saints and prayers and useful applications for the reader.

This book is another must-read for the Catholic woman. It is not only enjoyable, but informative and promotes holiness and modesty- the type of book that all Catholic women should be filling their bookshelves with!

Rooted in Love: A Celebration of Catholic Womanhood

Cooper O’Boyle Reveals Personal Struggles, Celebrates Catholic Womanhood

Notre Dame, IN— “Today’s Catholic woman need not feel alone or discouraged,” writes bestselling author and popular EWTN television and radio personality Donna-Marie Cooper O’Boyle. “Catholic womanhood is steeped in tremendous love, transforming grace, and fulfilling joy. Our mission and vocation are rooted in love of God, who actually swoops down to serve us, his creatures, even as we strive to serve him. Amazing!”

With these words of comfort and wonder, Cooper O’Boyle begins Rooted in Love, a celebration of the dignity of women and an inspiration for finding comfort in Christ and his Church during times of struggle.

In Rooted in Love, Cooper O’Boyle reveals some intimate, often surprising facets of her journey. Her characteristic warmth and enthusiasm for God and the Catholic faith has been hard won through economic hardship, a heartbreaking divorce, parenting challenges, false accusations, and several personal tragedies. In narrating her trials, Cooper O’Boyle offers her readers empathy and encouragement, always assuring them of their “beautiful identity in the Lord.”

Drawing on these intimate experiences, along with the words of her longtime friend Blessed Mother Teresa of Calcutta, The Catechism, and recent teachings of Pope Benedict XVI and Blessed John Paul II, Cooper O’Boyle illuminates what it means to be a Catholic woman today. Though she never shies away from its challenges, Cooper O’Boyle presents Catholic womanhood as a magnificent, God-given source of dignity and grace, one that manifests itself in a lifetime of knowing, loving, and serving God.

Complete with insightful reflection questions at the end of each chapter, Rooted in Love is perfect for both individual and small-group use.
